Hip surgery gives Waite finals chance

AFL: Jarrad Waite is hoping exploratory hip surgery this week will have him right for the start of North Melbourne's finals campaign.

Waite had an outstanding start to 2016, kicking 27 goals in the first nine rounds, but his hip injury has kept him to just two games since round 12.

After returning from a week off against St Kilda last Saturday night Waite (pictured) lasted barely more than two quarters before his injured hip flared up again.

The club said Waite would have a "very minor” hip arthroscope.

"We've tried a non-invasive approach with his treatment but following on from the issues he had on Saturday night, we've decided this is the best course of action in order to have him ready for the pointy end of the season,” Roos football director Geoff Walsh said.

The eighth-placed Kangaroos play the seventh-placed Bulldogs on Saturday night.

The Bulldogs face an anxious wait for the results of scans to injured midfielders Tom Liberatore (ankle) and Jack Macrae (hamstring), and whether the pair will be available come finals.
