ROMA CUP: High end fashion on show in Roma for Cup Week

LOCALS in the Maranoa now have even more reasons to turn up to the Roma Cup in their best outfits this weekend.

The Roma Turf Club has expanded the Fashions on the Field competition on Saturday, with brilliant prizes available on the day.

Turf Club Fashions on the Field organiser Rebecca Girle said they wanted to see as many Maranoa girls and guys dressing up to impress the judges.

"We have an incentive for local ladies to enter, and this year we've really bolstered the prizes up to encourage Maranoa ladies to dress up," she said.

"There is a special award at Fashions on the Field this year for the Best Dressed Maranoa Lady in any category.

"This special prize is sponsored by Gifts at Teacup, and Tahnee Holland from Gifts at Teacup will be assisting the judging panel for this decision."

Ms Girle said while young people were always a big fan of the races, the Fashions on the Field event was something all ages could enjoy.

"It really adds something for all ages - we get entrants who are older ladies, and entrants who are very young ladies, which is really nice," she said.

"Fashions on the Field is an event where all ages can take part, whether it is by being a spectator or an entrant.

"It's about style and doesn't matter about age or size."

While thinking fashion has traditionally been popular with women, Ms Girle said the male category at Fashions on the Field had continued to grow every year.

"It's a lovely event and we find ladies enjoy being part of it," she said.

"We've also noticed a big increase in males, so each year we try and do a different categories, because there's always one who turns up with a yellow suit."

Ms Girle said along with the more formal categories, judges will be picking a prize for the Kooky Category, which is sure to feature some interesting entrants.
