Happy days for the graziers in Maranoa
GRAZIERS all around the Maranoa are rejoicing in the success of the cattle market as of late.
The heavy rain received late last week made for a wet sale at the Roma Saleyards on Tuesday with a total yarding of 2769 cattle.
The low numbers combined with the high market prices meant it was once again a good day for all those selling off their steers.
This was the case for seller Bruce Walker from The Farm, Roma, who sold his Charolais-cross steers to 408c for 312kg to return $1276 on the day.
"It's been pretty wet which means the prices are good,” he said.
"Everyone's had rain so the numbers are down this week.
"We are having good weather today and it's just a good day overall.”
Mr Walker sold 40 steers on the day and said he just wanted to get them in while the prices were so good.
"Everything in the market is just really good at the moment,” he said.
"And everyone's looking to restock and there's not a lot of cattle around so that's helping drive the prices up today.
"I needed room and the prices are just too good to be missed.”
Roma light steers topped 436c/kg at the sale which highlights how the market is remaining at a consistently high price.
"The cattle market is obviously really good at the moment,” he said.
"It doesn't seem to be slowing down either which is a really good sign.”
Mr Walker was pleased with the result on the day for not only him but for all those on the day.
"Everyone's pretty happy at the moment and it's just a good time in the industry.”
