Hampers helping Roma families in need
TANYA Carroll is hoping to ease the financial burden of families in the Maranoa this festive season.
Manager of Dalby's Food Assist Warehouse, Ms Carroll delivered over 70 food hampers to Roma last Friday.
At a drastically reduced cost of what it would be in store, the hampers provide families with everything they need to fill their pantry.
"This was our first run in Roma and it's basically just about helping out the community,” she said.
"There was a very big need for us to come out here and we were approached by a number of people through Food Assist asking to bring hampers here.
"We have serviced 75 families already here today.”
FoodAssist is a community project funded by ActsCare, and each hamper is put together thanks to the donations of community members and is then packed by the volunteers.
The hampers available to residents in Roma are $30 each and provide grocery items such as chicken nuggets, lasagne, pantry items, bread, Weetbix, pasta, long-life milk, biscuits and lollies.
Ms Carroll said the contents of the hampers vary each week, depending on what was donated to them.
"Everything in the hampers is basically donated from kind people in the community,” she said.
Ms Carroll and the Food Assist Dalby volunteers will be bringing out the $30 food hampers to Roma every Friday until the New Year.
Her truck will be parked in the Community Hub carpark from 9am until 11am.
Hampers must be pre-ordered.
