Half-price fees to celebrate Saleyard's 50-year anniversary

LIVE weight, open auction and agent operating fees will be halved at the Roma Saleyards' 50th anniversary store sale next month.

Set for Tuesday, October 8, saleyards councillor Peter Flynn said 50 years of operation was a significant milestone and the council wanted to mark the special occasion with a 50 per cent reduction in selling fees for each head of cattle.

"The Roma Saleyards' 50th anniversary store sale will be an opportunity to acknowledge the vision and foresight of the Roma- Bungil Showgrounds and Saleyards Board to start what has become the largest cattle-selling centre in Australia,” Cr Flynn said.

"The sale also allows council to thank our vendors, buyers and agents for their continued support of the Roma Saleyards.

"With the prolonged drought conditions hitting cattle producers in our region and beyond, we hope this 50 per cent reduction in fees will offer some financial relief to our valued facility users.”

On that day, the council will officially open the $2.173 million Roma Saleyards Improvement Plan Stage 1 project, which includes an extra 156 selling pens and two drafting pens.

With the saleyards' maximum capacity sitting about 10,000 head of cattle, Cr Flynn encouraged vendors to capitalise on the discount fees.

A barbecue lunch will be held to celebrate the day, with the council welcoming current and former users of the complex.
