Granddaughter to face court over man's alleged murder

THE granddaughter of murdered Adelaide man Robert Whitwell will today face court charged with his murder.

Brittney Jade Dwyer, 19, is one of two Redbank Plains women who have been charged with the 81-year-old's murder.

She was arrested, along with her friend Bernadette Burns, 21, in Redbank Plains on Friday.

Mr Whitwell was found dead in his home in Craigmore, north of Adelaide, on August 8.

Last week South Australian police searched homes in Ipswich before charging the two women.

Six officers travelled to Queensland as part of an extensive investigation.

Detective Inspector Greg Hutchins told media one of the young women was the granddaughter of the victim.

He alleged Mr Whitwell was killed inside his home.

"The circumstances of this murder are quite shocking and are very devastating for the family," he said.

He said South Australian police were not anticipating any further arrests, but were still early in the investigation.
