Gladstone man caught up in online romance scam
QUEENSLAND detectives have charged a Victorian woman over an alleged online romance scam after a man allegedly deposited $17,000 into a account.
It will be alleged the woman fraudulently obtained money from six different men between 2011 and 2013.
A 33-year-old Bentley Park man reported the incident to police in May last year after allegedly depositing approximately $17,000 into an account at the request of a woman from the dating site.
A 36-year-old woman from Clarkefield, Victoria was charged in August 2015.
Subsequent investigations into the incident led detectives to lay a further two charges against the woman on Thursday.
It will be alleged that a woman fraudulently obtained a sum of money from a 29-year-old Ingham man and a 23-year-old man from Gladstone between December 2012 and January this year.
The woman was charged with a total of four counts of dishonestly obtaining property from another and two counts of dishonestly obtaining property from another value of/over $30,000.
The two fresh charges will be mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
Police are urging people to be aware of dating or romance type scams.
