Gladiators topple Nutbush in finals 51-25
VOLLEYBALL: Roma Volleyball’s iron-clad Gladiators have stormed to victory in the finals of mixed volleyball, making their break from runner-up status over the years.
Despite a promising start to the season from Nutbush, the Gladiators ultimately ousted them in a thrilling 51–25 match.
Gladiators captain and coach David Schefe said it was a convincing match between the two, with the Gladiators having finally reached this point in the finals.
“They started out a bit nervous, as most teams do with the finals, but it was great to see a display of sportsmanship on the night,” he said.
“We’ve entered the grand final many times over past competitions, but we never really got to the point of being able to win the finals.”
With the season finalised, Schefe said it ultimately came down to everyone having a good time and displaying good sportsmanship.
“The Gladiators are a very international team; we have people from Kazakhstan, the United States, New Zealand and even the Philippines – they’re a great team,” he said.
“Mixed volleyball is one of those events that is really great for meeting new people, and is a good initiative for people to remain active.
“There’s great sportsmanship on display. It’s all positive thoughts from positive people.”
