Giant snake found slithering around in couple's roof

A GIANT snake was found slithering around in a Toowoomba couple's roof.

It was the thumping and hissing that prompted them to call Dave Wiedman from Toowoomba Snake Catchers 24/7.

Mr Weidman said the most difficult part of catching the large carpet python was squeezing into tight spaces in the roof.

"It's very cold and very slow that's why he's not striking," he said in the video on Facebook.

He said in the chilly months snakes often looked for places to warm up.

Mr Wiedman said although it was getting cooler, he encouraged people to continue to keep an eye out for snakes.

"A lot of people think snakes go into hibernation in the winter but they don't, they go into brumation which means they are less active.

"They still like lay out in the warm sun.

"If anyone does see a snake don't try and be a hero and catch it because that is when you'll get bitten."

Mr Wiedman also recently caught a black snake in a Toowoomba backyard after the owners saw it lurking around the dog kennel.

Once the home owner noticed the snake he phoned Mr Weidman straight away and kept an eye on it until he arrived.
