THIS year Vietnam Veterans Day was particularly special, and difficult, for Roma's Tash McInnes.

The 2016 commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan was her first since losing her father, Vietnam veteran Corporal Graham Christoffel.

Ms McInnes, the president of Roma Apex, helped organise a barbecue on Saturday to both honour her father and recognise the service and sacrifice of local veterans.

"He was a very proud man; as much as he suffered, he still marched,” she said.

"I saw him at his worst, but my favourite memory was watching him march back in Townsville.

"I think about him all the time, every single day - about how I can honour him and his sacrifice.”

All money raised went towards the RSL.
