Gallas Fox Park upgrade slated for cricket season
CRICKET: Gallas Fox Park is due to get a revamp for the summer cricket after seven teams signed up to compete in the rep games for the 2016-17 Roma and District Cricket competition.
With teams from as far away as Wallumbilla and Surat expressing interest to play in the upcoming season, Souths captain Scott Hilton has flagged the possibility of getting a new pitch and a revamp for the park ahead of the games.
He said the season was looking good for the players, with a lot more cricket to be played over byes.
"We'll have scheduled weekends for local fixtures so we can put together our best possible teams,” Hilton said.
"We're even getting a new concrete slab and covering for the park.
"It makes everything a lot better - no one wants to alternate between two different teams and all these games over the weekend.”
The Roma and District Cricket Association plans to host a Twenty20 competition for the first three weeks of the season to help generate interest in the sport.
Hilton encouraged people to come down to Gallas Fox Park and support the games.
