Funds fly high for flying doctors
ROMA'S Woolworths store has taken out the top spot in a statewide initiative to raise much-need funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
For its achievements, the Roma store was presented with a mounted flying doctors model aircraft - a perpetual trophy - last week. Woolworths stores across Queensland and northern NSW spent three weeks encouraging customers to support the flying doctors by buying $2 wall tokens. Of the 245 participating stores, Roma Woolworths raised the most, $8602. North Queensland's Mount Pleasant Woolworths raised $8270 and Cloncurry Woolworths raised $6116.
The generous support contributed to a total of $583,359 throughout 2017 from Woolworths customers and employees across the state. Flying doctors board member and former Federal Member for the Maranoa Bruce Scott said he was proud of the community and the store for its efforts.
"We're not a 24/7 store in Roma but we managed to beat big cities. The RFDS is an important part of our health network and the community should be proud of how they responded to this initiative.”
Mr Scott said he was a long-time flying doctors supporter.
"This support for the RFDS from the Roma community is very humbling,” he said.
"The flying doctor is a great mantle of safety.
"They provide the finest care to the furtherest corners of our country.”
