From your clothesline to the flood line
LORETTA Thomas embodies everything about the Australian spirit - even when facing devastating drought - she is willing to give the shirt off her back to help others.
Now she is calling on Maranoa residents to join her in helping our North Queensland cousins, who are rebuilding their lives after this month's once- in-500-year flood.
"We were approached by Jane Lee, a local camp- drafting identity, who asked if we would be the drop off point for donations for flood victims,” Ms Thomas said.
Campdrafters Clothesline has 37 locations throughout Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria, where people are invited to drop off clothes they no longer need to help those who do.
Over the course of a week, previously drought-stricken areas like Julia Creek recorded rainfall of more than 400 per cent their average February rainfall, with 510 millimetres falling in seven days.
Ms Thomas said aside from collecting donations, she will also send some of her store's stock north to those lived through the natural disaster.
"We encourage other businesses to go through their stock, and see if there's anything they might like to donate to these people who have lost everything,” she said.
"Anything at all people can donate would be great.”
