Fresh look at produce in Roma
MEET the woman who is going to give Woolworths a run for their money.
Roma resident Emma Ashley is opening up Lemon Grove Produce, a fruit and vegetable store where everything is sourced locally.
"I just think that Roma really needs it,” Ms Ashley said.
"There's no competition and I like the idea that no one else does this in town so you not encroaching on anyone else.”
Ms Ashley will be stocking a range of products alongside the fresh fruit and vegies.
"Most will be from Queensland and I've a got a few things coming from Byron Bay so I just want to try and support local farmers and dairy farmers,” she said.
"So you can come in and get Montville Coffee, which is 100% organic, it's child friendly, there's activity packs for the kids that you can come and get, I'm going to have a daily treat, there's Peters Ice-cream and scoops, some nice teas, vege chips, locally grown honey, some gourmet spreads and a lot of Brookfarm muesli and other products.”
Ms Ashley first came to Roma from Cunnamulla nine years ago and said she had always hoped to open something like this in the town.
"I've always wanted to have my own shop,” she said.
"It's funny, when I first got here I remember calling my mum and being like 'I can't believe Roma doesn't have a fruit and vegies shop' because I always grew up with one.”
Ms Ashley began working on her store at the beginning of the year and she said it's all coming together how she wanted it to.
"I want it to feel like you're away,” she said.
The official opening of Lemon Grove Produce is on Monday at 8am. The store is located at 38 Hawthorne St. Phone orders welcome.
