Former childcare worker’s ‘unbelievably vile’ acts on teen

"UNBELIEVABLY vile" is how a judge described the degrading sex acts a man subjected a 14-year-old to for six months.

The south-east Queensland 21-year-old, who cannot be named to protect the victim, pleaded guilty to 13 offences including carnal knowledge of a person under 16, possessing child exploitation material, sodomy and maintaining an unlawful relationship with a child.

On Monday, the Brisbane District Court sentenced the former childcare worker to serve 14 months of a three and half year jail term.

The accused met the girl while they were attending a Caboolture region school in 2012.

Two years later, in January 2014, the then 19-year-old started the relationship with the teenager who the court heard was already sexually active.

The court heard he knew the victim was 14 because he had discussed her age with friends and even a school counsellor.

Brisbane District Court Judge David Reid said some of the things the accused did to the girl - including exploitative sex involving violent acts and sex toys, suggesting she have sex with a dog and calling her extremely foul names - were appalling.

"The unusual feature of this case is the abhorrent conduct you subjected this girl to, your degrading humiliating and exploitative conduct towards her," Judge Reid said.

"That's some of the worst conduct you can imagine.

"You did not care for her to any significant extent."

The victim said the accused ignored her pleas for him not to hurt her and she accepted the abuse because she feared he would leave her.

"I always wanted to make him happy," she said in her submission to the court.

"I love him a lot."

Defence barrister Robert Glenday told the court the girl was a willing participant in the relationship.

Mr Glenday urged the court to take into account his client's early guilty plea and that he was being treated for depression and anxiety.

The accused will be eligible for parole in March next year.
