Orphaned children of Australian ISIS fighter stranded
THE five children of Australian foreign Islamic State fighter Khaled Sharrouf have reportedly been stranded in Syria after their mother died.
Convicted terrorist Sharrouf was reportedly killed in a drone strike last year and his wife Tara Nettleton died this week from complications linked to an operation last year.
Ms Nettleton had followed her husband to Syria, taking their five children with her late last year.
Lawyer for the family Charles Waterstreet told media Ms Nettleton's mother Karen was now desperate to get the children out of Syria.
He called on the Federal Government to do everything it could to help the children return to Australia.
Immigration Minister Peter Dutton on Thursday said the situation was a "complicated mess", but the government was considering circumstances where the children could be brought home.
