Fitness mum’s stylish career in funky tights design
CINDY Tavinor was tired of wearing the same old boring tights to work out in, so she decided to create her own style.
The Rockhampton mother-of-three jumped onto her sewing machine and created new designs for tights that were bursting with colour, prints and patterns.
Cindy, 33, didn't expect that her idea would turn into her new online business, ARK Sportswear.
"I often saw cheap see-through tights that didn't fit people right or they were overpriced and boring," Cindy said.
"So I made my own gym wear then had a few friends ask about the tights and it turned into (a business)."
Not only are her tights bright and colourful, the fitness advocate said they were compression tights which brought blood flow to the legs during a workout session.
Cindy has always been involved in fitness, hitting the gym since she was 18 years old.
"Staying healthy is very important to me," she said.
"I can only work out twice a week if I'm lucky, between the kids, work and the business."
Cindy started focusing on the business in December and said she's excited to see where it goes.
"The business reflects my personality, I can be shy but I like to express myself as well," she said.
"I don't like plain old black tights, they're boring.
"The new tights I design get better and better, my daughter has even helped me design new ones which turned out to be rainbows."
Cindy said it's been overwhelming with orders from all over Australia and New Zealand.
"I've sourced out someone to help make them with good quality fabric and stitching, and I get them made to my designs," she said.
Cindy, who has created the business from the ground up, said it was a dream to do something incorporating both fitness and sewing.
"I want to make something that's affordable, unique and serves a purpose," she said.
