Fire hits Roma
Two fires in as many weeks have struck Roma in the lead up to Christmas.
The first was detected at the Community and Allied Health building on Arthur Street on Wednesday, December 14.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said fire crews responded to a triple zero call shortly after 4pm.
"We responded to reports of a room smelling like plastic and discovered there was a fault in one of the electrical ballasts," he said.
An electrical ballast is intended to limit the amount of current in an electrical circuit.
Despite two fire engines, one police car and one ambulance, the fire was contained some 20 minutes later with minimal damage reported.
Last Sunday, December 18 the Fire Department also responded to reports of a large plume of black smoke coming from a premises on Edwardes Street.
Three vehicles responded at around 4.10pm and crews were able to contain the fire by 4.45pm.
There were no occupants in the premises at the time.
