Fire explodes in man’s face, rescue chopper called in

A MAN has been airlifted to a Brisbane hospital after a backyard fire exploded in his face on the Sunshine Coast overnight.

The man, aged in his 30s, suffered burns to his chest, shoulders and face.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said emergency services were called to a Yandina home about 8.20pm.

"It was reported as a backyard rubbish burn. An accelerant has been used, it's caught alight and he's sustained those burns," she said.

He was airlifted to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
