Find something you love and overcome bullying

THE tragic death of schoolgirl Dolly Everitt who committed suicide after cyber-bullying highlights the real dangers of social media.

Being bullied to such an extent where a child feels worthless is shocking, and for the parents, equally so.

Having suffered bullying at school I can recall the intense pain this brings to the whole family, and the cruel mentality of those who inflict it.

A child can retreat so easily into their shell and it is extremely difficult to overcome.

Sometimes this torment can last for years and doesn't leave until schooling is completed.

Now, with the advent of smart phones and social media, bullying is everywhere.

Have you been a victim of bullying?

This poll ended on 13 February 2018.

Current Results

Yes, and it still affects me now.

42%

Yes, but I overcame it and grew as a person.

42%

I've never really been bullied.

14%

This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.

It is so important that those suffering be shown how to realise their own self-worth, and this only comes with determination and maturity.

Sometimes joining new groups can create a breakthrough.

Finding something you love, and meeting new friends is the first step.

By doing this, you are not only gaining self-confidence, but starting to enjoy yourself.

Life is precious. Embrace it - don't erase it.

Also perhaps put that smart phone under the bed for a while, and forget about Facebook.

Life can, believe me, still go on.
