READER SNAP: Rain fills up brand-new Christmas present
THE Sylvesters' Christmas present of a rain gauge was put to good use almost immediately, with rain falling heavily on their property west of Roma.
Katarina Sylvester said her three children were excited to see 65mm of rain fall in the gauge, and bringing with it full water tanks and green fields.
After 12 months of dust and dirt, she said it was the best Christmas present anyone could ask for.
"We just measured it this morning and we've had 65.5mm - we got the rain gauge this Christmas so it was a bit of a novelty," she said.
"We don't have cattle but our tanks were dry and it's filled our tanks and we now have grass and our horses have green fields."
Heavy rainfall also hit graziers who needed it, with friends of Ms Sylvester's reporting large rain in roughly 24 hours.
But more rain in 2016 was needed to help everyone, she said.
"We have friends north of Wallumbilla and they haven't had a heap of rain, so we still need more," Ms Sylvester said.
As for kids Renton, Frankie and Sienna, Ms Sylvester said they were busy doing what kids know how to do best - getting really dirty.
"They've been enjoying the mud - they got totally covered in mud the other day," she said.
