Sereina Lititamu is flying to the country tomorrow after being unable to contact family and friends.

"It's been 7 days now since I last spoke to them," she said.

"I tried to call them but the phone is not working.

"I'm worried about my family so I'll go and see them."

She plans to find out their needs before sending aid to the country.

Ms Lititamu said Fijians were in desperate need of food, water and clothing, particularly in the outer islands which were worst hit.

"It's not that bad in Suva but it's the western and northern parts and the outer islands that are suffering," she said.

"There are places without electricity and the schools are closed.

"It's very bad."

The Darling Downs Fijian Association is leading the effort to collect goods to send to Fiji.

They are collecting non-perishable item like clothes, bed linen and towels to aid the country.

If you can help contact the group's president Waqa Benito on 0406 026 635.
