Fighters will never give up

KARATE: Disciplined fighters have shown off their skills at the Renbukan Roma karate tournament on Wednesday night at the Maranoa PCYC.

Renbukan Roma head instructor Will Campbell said it was an inspirational night with all the kids showing good spirit.

"Tonight was a tournament within our own club, just a bit of a get together to see who was doing really well this year,” he said.

"The tournament was comprised of all different levels of skill, there were different belts competing from white belts up to blue belts.

"We just put them in their age division and see how they went.”

Campbell said he was proud of the kids efforts.

"I'm extremely proud of the kids, they showed a lot of spirit,” he said.

"A lot of them got hurt but they all pushed through the pain and kept going, which made me really proud.

"In life it is very easy to wimp out and give up, but karate teaches you that discipline that you don't quit and you keep going no matter what and tonight they showed some really good discipline.”

Renbukan Roma Karate Club has been operating in Roma for more than 18 years and has taken kids to international, national and state tournaments.

Campbell said the club is open to all ages, where you can go at your own pace so everyone can be involved.

"We've got a huge mix of age groups, from four-year-olds all the way to people in their 60s,” he

said.

"If anyone wants to come down and have a look they are more than welcome, we've got a really good bunch so come down and try and hopefully you enjoy

it.”

Campbell said Renbukan is a traditional style of Japanese karate, going back lineage to the original beginnings.

"The best thing about Renbukan is that it hasn't been altered, it's stayed exactly the same from what it was in Japan all those years ago,” he said.

"It installs confidence in the kids so that if they were ever put in an unfortunate position they would be able to defend themselves.”
