Parents' worst nightmare: Daughter, 6, could be deported

MINISTERIAL intervention is being sought by a Lennox Head family who face deportation because their six-year-old daughter has an undiagnosed mystery illness.

Kai Tippett and his partner, Hayley, have applied to Federal Immigration Minister Peter Dutton to prevent them being separated from their daughter, Sienna.

The couple, who moved to Australia five years ago from England when their daughter was just six-months-old, have both been granted permanent residency, but Sienna was refused due to her undiagnosed illness.

A visit to a paediatrician and numerous tests still failed to provide a diagnosis.

"Her symptoms affect her balance and speech," Mr Tippett wrote on change.org.

"This has no effect on her cognitive ability and, as quoted by her teacher, 'she is an intelligent girl'."

"She is learning Auslan and sign language is the second language in our home.

"We have always felt grateful to be in Australia and that our little girl was in the best place to grow up healthy and strong."

Mr Tippett said when the couple found out Sienna's application for permanent residency had been rejected, they were devastated.

In an effort to force Mr Dutton's hand, he launched an online petition on website change.org, which has more than 23,400 supporters.

A spokeswoman for Mr Dutton confirmed the Tippett family had applied for ministerial intervention in the matter which was being considered.
