EMPLOYERS in the health and social services industries will be under the Fair Work Ombudsman's spotlight next year.
In a national campaign, the Ombudsman will target employers in the sector to ensure the 1.4 million workers in the industry are receiving appropriate pay and conditions.
About 80% of the workers in these sectors are women, almost half are aged 45 or older and a third born overseas.
About 10,000 overseas 457 visa holders are among those working in both sectors.
Employers will be audited for compliance with workplace laws on record-keeping, pay slip obligations, minimum hourly rates, penalty rates and allowances.
Ombudsman Natalie James said the campaign was the result of "intelligence and advice from key stakeholders".
The FWO receives about 3000 complaints a year from the health and social services sectors.
