Facelifts for 2015 Nissan Micra and Nissan Juke

EXTERIOR facelifts and premium touches are at the heart of Nissan's revised Micra and Juke, the two small city cars central to the Japanese manufacturer's push to reclaim a spot in the top tier of Australian motoring.

Nissan Australia managing director Richard Emery is confident these spruced up models will hit the mark.

"Our message is clear, keep an eye on us," he said at the local launch in Melbourne this week.

"We are the only integrated OEM car company in Australia. We are loud and proud about the Nissan brand and we are determined to go from the B-team back into the A-team where we belong."

The distinctive SUV-styled Juke, which has enjoyed much success since its arrival here in 2013, now offers up a fresh entry-level variant which sports a spirited 1.2-litre DIG turbo petrol engine (from $23,490). The punchy unit, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox in the ST grade 2WD, produces 85kW and 190Nm of torque, much of the latter at a useful low RPM.

This new engine complements a stable which includes the 1.6-litre DIG turbo petrol available in the Ti-S 2WD manual and AWD Xtronic and of course the Juke ST which is powered by a smooth and efficient 1.6-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine.

But it is with the Juke's new safety features and equipment specifications that interest will lie, with the range-topping Ti-S models, in particular, offering a fair bit of bang from $29,790.

Nissan's Safety Shield includes Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning and Moving Object Detection with a complete real-time 360 degree helicopter view around the car to make manoeuvring as safe and easy as possible.

Advanced technology will keep the gadget savvy happy with the NissanConnect system offering smartphone connectivity with access to a variety of apps ranging from social media platforms to entertainment including internet radio.

The exterior of the Juke has been jazzed up too with a new grille and rear bumper design, new LED lights, a bigger boot and new colours for customers who seek a greater degree of personalisation.

The Micra features the same Nissan V Motion grille as the Juke as well as a new bonnet, guards, restyled front and rear bumper, new front headlights and rear lamps as well as new wheels.

The range has been streamlined with Nissan doing away with the mid-specced ST-L models with the three remaining choices earning a host of new technological and aesthetic features but retaining the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine.

The interior trim and centre console has been updated with the entry-level ST (from $13, 490) cruise control, auto windows and audio streaming as standard while the Ti adds sat-nav, reverse camera and LED rear lights as standard.
