Ergon still investigating yesterday's blackout in Maranoa

ERGON crews have been out near the Roma Saleyards today trying to find the cause of a black out which affected 4300 homes across the region last night.

Residents in the estate near the saleyards reported seeing flashes of light and loud noises, consistent with a fault current after power lines have clashed, as the power went out at 8.48pm.

Patrols in the area last night did not find any reason for the high-voltage lines to have clashed in the still conditions, although a bird strike is one possibility.

Crews were delayed in restoring power while they investigated reports of a pole fire on the Mitchell Road about 2km west of Roma, but this turned out to be a grassfire that was not impacting on the network.

Crews then determined power could be safely restored to customers in Roma, Mitchell, Injune and surrounding areas and the power came back on at 10.41pm.
