Enjoy a taste of the Balonne this Australia Day
WHAT do beef, lamb, onions, garlic, broccoli, carrots, blueberries, grapes, figs and wine all have in common?
Not only are they all produced in the Balonne and surrounding region, but they will all be plated up at Riversands’ Taste of the Balonne Long Table this Australia Day.
Five courses showcasing the best of local and regional produce will be plated up among the 40-plus metres of lit up vines, a sight owner David Blackett can’t wait to see.
“This is the first time we’ve held an Australia Day event to this level,” Mr Blackett said.
“We’re really focusing on the menu, and ensuring there are local ingredients being used in every dish.
“We are lucky to have so much great local and regional product, so this will be about showing those off alongside our wines.”
St George Meals on Wheels will be the main beneficiary from the event, with proceeds going towards buying new hot box Eskies.
Dinner among the vines wouldn’t be complete without grape stomping, set to the backdrop of live jazz.
“Sonny Getz Blue will be performing a range of tunes from afternoon to evening throughout the event,” Mr Blackett said.
“WSGB have been a hit around the Balonne area and we look forward to hosting them at our event.”
Dishes will be prepared by local chefs.
The menu includes kangaroo mini schnitzels and pork belly pancakes for entree, before enjoying a pepper-berry and rosemary roast leg of lamb, medium-rare roast beef and roast baby vegetable salads, potato gratin and bread and butter boards. Dessert will be New York cheesecake with figs in golden muscat.
