End of an era for Roma Miscamble Brothers
IT'S the end of an era for Roma - the Garvie family has sold Miscamble Brothers Mitre 10 and Miscamble Steel & Tube.
Sunshine Hardware & Rural Group has bought both iconic businesses and the Miscamble Brothers Mitre 10 will be renamed Sunshine Hardware and Rural. The store will open under its new name today.
Bruce Garvie said he and his family sincerely appreciated the many customers who had supported them.
"The support shown by our customer base has allowed us to grow the business and provide a broad range of services to the Maranoa and district community," Mr Garvie said.
"We would like to pass on our appreciation to all our staff for the many years of service.
"And (we) wish them well as they work together with the new owners."
Sunshine Mitre 10 group is one of the largest independently owned hardware and rural groups in Australia, and the Roma store will be the 10th store in the Sunshine Group.
The Roma takeover follows Sunshine's recent acquisition of Johnson's Mitre 10 store in Dalby.
Sunshine Mitre 10 CEO Darren Jordison said the group had jumped at the opportunity to secure a presence in Roma.
"We've had a number of acquisitions in quite a short time, with Kingaroy being acquired in 2010 and then followed by Hervey Bay, Caloundra, Dalby and now Roma," Mr Jordison said.
"Our intention is to carry on the great tradition of service currently provided by the Miscambles Group, but also to invest in extending the current range of products and services offered by the store at the best possible prices.
"The existing management and staff have been retained in the business.
"And (they) are looking forward to the new challenge."
