A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman has confirmed a 34-year-old man has died, after a young family were caught in messy conditions north of Marcoola.

A 32-year-old woman- the man's partner- and their two daughters aged four and seven have been transported to Nambour General Hospital for precautions after the incident.

Multiple ambulance crews responded to the incident, but despite best efforts, the man was non-responsive after over half an hour of CPR.

UPDATE: 5.50pm

A man believed to be in his 30s has been pronounced dead at the scene, after he was unable to be revived having been dragged from the surf north of Marcoola this afternoon.

A woman believed to be in her 40s and two children were also in trouble but were plucked to safety.

Reports were that the man had been found floating in the surf by lifeguards and was rushed to shore, where paramedics performed CPR on the man for about half an hour, however there was no response from the deceased.

The incident unfolded at about 4.20pm on the beach off Boardrider Crescent, Mt Coolum.

UPDATE: 4.55pm

Queensland Ambulance Service officers and lifeguards have requested helicopter assistance to transport a man, believed to be in his 30s, who is undergoing CPR after being dragged from the surf this afternoon.

Reports of people in trouble came through at about 4.20pm, with emergency services responding to the beachfront at beach access 95, off Boardrider Crescent, Mt Coolum.

Initial reports indicate a man, woman and two children were involved.

The two children are safe, and it appears the woman, believed to be in her 40s, had also been treated and was conscious and breathing.

CPR was still underway on the man dragged from the surf.

EARLIER: Emergency services are on scene amid reports of people struggling in surf off beach access 95, Boardrider Crescent, Mt Coolum at about 4.20pm.

A man has reportedly been dragged unconscious from the surf and is being worked on by emergency services, along with a woman who is currently being treated by Queensland Ambulance Service officers in attendance, while two children are reported to be conscious.

Lifeguards are also on scene.
