Elderly woman 'hit in face' with illegal martial arts weapon

AN elderly woman suffered facial injuries during an alleged violent home invasion this morning.

The 74-year-old Meadowbrook resident is in hospital after two men allegedly broke into her Loganlea Road home around 1am.

She was allegedly hit in the face with a set of nunchakus - a traditional martial arts weapon that has two sticks connected by a short chain.

Nunchakus are deemed restricted weapons in Queensland.

Police said a 22-year-old man, who was also a resident in the house, was taken to hospital with bruises.

Two men have been charged and are expected to front the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on August 18.

"It is alleged around 1am two men forced their way into a Loganlea Road house by kicking in the front door," a Queensland Police media statement said.

"One of the men was allegedly armed with nunchaku and was swinging it around, causing damage to walls.

"It will be alleged a 74-year-old woman was struck in the face with the nunchaku and was transported to hospital for treatment.

"The two men fled the scene empty handed and were arrested by police nearby."

A 26-year-old man and a 33-year old man were charged with enter dwelling with intent whilst armed and assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed and in company.

The 33-year-old was also charged with wilful damage and possession of a restricted item namely.

Both men are from Meadowbrook.

In an unrelated incident, police are investigating why a shot was fired into a house at Coombabah a few hours ago.

The shooting happened at 5am at a Bernini Drive residence.
