Roma-born Edwina Pettiford wins in USA body building comp
FLYING to Las Vegas to compete in a body building world championship was a dream come true for Edwina Pettiford - so imagine her delight when she came back with silverware.
Former Roma resident Ms Pettiford took home two first places and a second place at the 2015 Fitness America Weekend, earning herself Muscle Mania Universe Pro Status qualification.
Her new qualification means Ms Pettiford can compete in any pro competition without needing to qualify first.
She described the whole experience as a "sensory overload", admitting she learnt something about herself along the way.
"It was next level stuff, just a sensory overload," she said.
"They (the other competitors) were all really great - I think being interested in the same thing, it really helped.
"I learnt a lot about myself, because I did a lot of mind work, so I knew I had to work on my mindset and did a lot of visualisations."
Along with her own personal development, Ms Pettiford said the journey to the United States had brought her closer to her husband Troy.
"You wouldn't believe - to spend time together without the kids, he was amazing and always there for me," she said.
"We're so much better for the experience."
Ms Pettiford said she had received expressions of interest from women wanting to learn more about her experiences and personal development and was considering holding a talk in Roma around Christmas.
