Echidnas snatch draw
THE ROMA Echidnas and Highfields Redbacks went into their round eight clash tied at the foot of ladder -both desperate for their first win of the season.
By the 80th minute however, both teams would remain win-less having played out a thrilling draw at Gallas Fox Park - the scores tied 17-17.
Both teams showed strong defensive efforts in the first half, and the game looked like it would be a low-scoring affair.
The home team crossed first but failed to convert.
Highfields were the next to score, landing a crucial blow just before half-time and ensured that the visitors would go into the break carrying the momentum.
The visitors scored again, just after half time to extend the score to 14-5.
The Echidnas rallied, however, and made several dangerous attacking raids on the Highfields line, but were thwarted on three separate occasions thanks to some desperate defence.
It appeared like it wasn't going to be the Echidnas afternoon, losing the ball over the line when they looked sure to dive over.
Finally, the home side crossed the line thanks to a Adam Shorten try in the corner and the home side found themselves within four points of a hard-earned victory.
The Redback hit back almost immediately, with a penalty right in front extending the lead to seven points.
A remarkable stepping effort from AJ Riley in the final minutes of the game meant that the home team had the chance to convert and tie the game.
The kick was nailed to end an incredible game of rugby union.
