Echidnas bring home the Rabobank Cup

RUGBY UNION: Roma Echidnas have gone back to back for the first time in many years, winning their first two games of the season on the road while bringing home the Rabobank Cup.

After coming off their first win of 2019, the Echidnas had momentum behind them as they travelled to Condamine to take on the Cods at the weekend.

When the final whistle was blown, the Echindas were victorious, thrashing the Cods 43-7 and taking home the inter-club Rabobank Cup.

President Richard Bright said it was the best start to a season they'd had in years.

"Last year we only won one game all up for the season, so it's definitely a change in pace,” Bright said.

"The boys played very well, we took a little bit to get into the groove and then our forwards got a roll on and held their own against the Condamine Cods, who are traditionally a good pack of forwards.

"And our backs just had a bit more speed, scoring some great tries, some breaking the line from halfway.”

The Echidnas hosted a Classic Wallabies coaching session last week. which Bright said was a source of inspiration.

"We had (former Wallaby) Sam Cordingley passing on some good defensive drills for the boys and Sean Hardman giving some advice around scrummaging, which they took out onto the paddock,” Bright said.

The Echidnas will have a week off (bye) and are expected to come out firing for their first home game at the ants' nest on Saturday, April 6.
