Car loses control in the wet, smashes into side of store
A WOMAN has been taken to the Emerald Hospital this morning following a two vehicle crash on Hospital Rd.
The accident happened at 5.50am with the female driver of the Holden Commodore transported to hospital and becoming entrapped initially.
An eyewitness who was walking along Hospital Rd when the crash happened said the road was wet following rain overnight.
He said two vehicles were travelling north after stopping at the intersection of Egerton St and Hospital Rd.
"I heard tyres screeching, the (Holden) was driving ahead of the other vehicle which was in the left lane," he said.
"They come around the bend and she slid into the other lane and then she has over-corrected.
"The tail of the car has slid out and she has done a 180 degree turn, ending up at the corner of the paint place."
The eyewitness said the driver of the other vehicle was on his way to work but immediately stopped to help.
"Another person called police and while we were waiting, the ambulance station is about 600m from the accident so I ran down to the ambulance station and knocked on the door," he said.
He said the driver's lower legs were pinned and the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service attended and used the jaws of life to release the driver.
