Eade remains hopeful on midfield pair

GOLD Coast coach Rodney Eade hopes his side's flag potential will be enough to convince out-of-contract young guns Jaeger O'Meara and Dion Prestia (pictured) to stick with the club.

Both midfielders are out for the rest of the season after knee surgery and are in the sights of rival clubs.

Eade is unsure of their intentions, with both players choosing to delay contract talks to the end of the season.

"They're playing their cards pretty close to their chest at the moment,” he said yesterday. "Obviously those guys are going to make decisions on what they think is best for their future.

"From our point of view, we want them to stay and we've spoken to them about that.

"Hopefully they can see there is a very positive future. If we can have an even run at it with injuries, I think we can compete with the best sides in the competition.”

O'Meara, the 2013 AFL Rising Star winner, has played only three NEAFL matches this season after rupturing a patella tendon in a practice match in April.
