Duo to face Gatton court on animal welfare charges

TWO Lockyer Waters women facing charges related to the treatment of animals have had their cases adjourned.

Appearing in Gatton Magistrates Court on Monday, Elizabeth Alice Verhagen, 60, appeared for a second mention of 34 charges and Tiana Daniels, 20, appeared for a first mention on four charges.

Verhagen is facing charges including:

  • Two charges failing to provide appropriate treatment for injury
  • One charge failing to take reasonable steps to provide for the animal's needs for displaying normal patterns of behaviour in a way that is appropriate
  • One charge failing to comply with animal welfare direction
  • Two charges failing to comply with compulsory code requirement - code of practice of breeding dogs
  • Eight charges failing to provide appropriate accommodation or living conditions
  • Eight charges failing to provide appropriate food and water
  • Twelve charges failing to provide appropriate treatment for injury
  • One charge was cruel to an animal by causing it unnecessary or unreasonable pain

Daniels is facing the following charges:

  • One charge failing to provide appropriate accommodation or living conditions
  • Two charges failing to provide appropriate food and water
  • One charge failing to comply with compulsory code requirement - code of practice for breeding of dogs

The court heard the pair were accessing legal aid and sought an adjournment.

The request was granted by Magistrate Howard Osborne.

Daniels and Verhagen are due back in court on October 5.
