Duo jazz up Surat cafe
ON SUNDAY morning, the Surat Timber Crate coffee shop celebrated the relocation of its business to 63 Burrow St.
The gourmet food, coffee and giftware shop opened the doors at its new location, which took four months to complete, with entertainment from a local jazz band, the same great-tasting food and friendly smiles.
"We have recently relocated to a bigger premises because the original shop we outgrew, so we moved and the new place has more comfort with an air-conditioner and amenities to cater for our extended hours of trading,” Timber Crate owner Karen Thom said.
Timber Crate has also extended its trading hours to 6.30am-4pm weekdays and 8am-2pm on weekends to cater more for the big lunch trade.
Owners Karen and Don Thom purchased the coffee shop 16 months ago and are also the owners of the New Royal Hotel, the venue to which the Timber Crate has relocated.
"Now we have the registered kitchen through the hotel we can offer more breakfast and lunch options to meet the demand, but the hotel is separate to the coffee shop,” Mrs Thom said.
The new shop also includes extended menus and a wood-fire heater for the winter.
The extended space also has created more job opportunities within Surat.
