Duct tape allegedly used in cruelty to an animal case

POLICE have charged a 49 year-old man with committing an act of cruelty upon an animal.

The Coffs Harbour man will appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court on April 20 where Police will allege the man wrapped duct tape around the head and mouth of a Mini Fox Terrier dog causing it difficulty in breathing and distress.

After being observed by a witness at the harbour forshore on Saturday, it's alleged the man has removed the tape from the dog before being approached by Police.

The dog was taken to a local vet where it was found to have red marks on it's head from the tape being removed and a laceration inside it's cheek.

The dog is expected to make a full recovery and will be returned to it's owner (not the accused man) today.
