Droving a dream job for Roma’s Hannah

WHO says all kids want to leave the country behind them to move to the city?

Hannah Mitchell is not one, especially after the 10-year-old learnt what life was like as a drover.

The Roma State College student has set her sights on becoming a drover after her parents took her out to meet with a family friends who were had come to outside Injune all the way from Darriver Downs near Longreach.

When it came time to leave, her mother Kylie said Hannah was so determined to stay longer she even offered to wash her own clothes.

“They (the drovers) were really good friends of ours and Hannah’s never experienced that before,” she said.

“My daughter ended up staying an extra week – when she was out there she wanted to stay longer.

“She was on the back of this horse and it was stinking hot but she didn’t care.”
