Drivers reminded of 'Fatal Five' after Darling Downs crash

A SINGLE vehicle rollover near Chinchilla has prompted a reminder from police for drivers to be careful when on the roads this Easter holiday break and to be wary of driver fatigue.

Police believe fatigue was an issue in the accident on the Warrego Hwy about 1km west of Warra about 12.10am Friday.

A Queensland Ambulance Spokesperson said, fortunately, the four people in the car - believed to be a family - escaped with only minor injuries but all were taken to Dalby Hospital as a precaution.

Darling Downs police district officer Acting Inspector Regan Draheim urged motorists to be vigilant and remain aware to the fatal five - speeding, fatigue, drink/drug driving, seat belt use and inattention.

"Fatigue is a big thing," he said.

"Drivers should carefully plan the trip and take their time... slow down.

"Also drive to the weather and road conditions.

"If it's wet take into account speed, braking distance and the conditions."

Act. Insp. Draheim said police would be on city streets, highways and country roads over the Easter break and throughout the school holidays.

"We have new road-side drug testing equipment and police will be conducting random breath and drug testing," he said.

"Basically, if you are going to drink then don't drive.

"Use a designated driver or the 'mate's motel' and stay the night, but be mindful of the residual effect of alcohol that may still be in the system the next day."
