Man charged with drug-driving after fatal Broadwater crash

A 31-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences, including drug driving, following a fatal crash on the Pacific Highway at Broadwater in July this year.

Around 9.30am on Tuesday July 7, a southbound white Isuzu D-Max and a northbound white Toyota Kluger collided head-on, and of the five people travelling in the Toyota, a woman in her late 60s was found dead in the rear of the vehicle.

A 46-year-old man and two children - a seven-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl - were released from the car suffering minor injuries, while a 41-year-old woman, who had been driving the car, was air-lifted to hospital with serious injuries.

The 31-year-old man driving the Isuzu was also taken to hospital with fractures to both feet.

Police conducted an investigation into the incident and have now issued the 31-year-old, from Bellbird in Queensland, with a future court attendance notice for numerous offences.

Police allege the driver was under the influence of methylamphetamine and cannabis-type substances at the time of the crash.

The 31-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death while under the influence of drugs; dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm while under the influence of drugs; drive manner dangerous occasioning death; negligent driving occasioning death; and a number of other driving charges.

The man is due to appear before Lismore Local Court on April 11 2016.
