Illegal park led to man's drink driving conviction
GRANT Sean Smyth found out the hard way that it is not a great idea to park your car on yellow lines.
Smyth appeared before Magistrate Mark Morrow facing a charge of drink-driving.
The court heard how police officers had seen a car parked on yellow lines in Auckland St on November 26.
They located Smyth, the driver of the car in a nearby house.
He explained that he had gone to the address to inspect a potential house to rent, and that he had a few drinks the night before.
When he was breath tested he was found to have a level of 0.197.
"That's almost four times over the limit," said Mr Morrow as he convicted him and fined him $1400.
Smyth also received a 10-month licence disqualification.
