Dozens on cruise ship struck down with gastro

DOZENS of people have been struck down with gastro on board a cruise ship that docked in Brisbane this morning.

A spokeswoman for the Metro North Public Health Unit this afternoon confirmed that it was aware of "at least 91 cases of gastro on board a cruise ship that berthed in Brisbane".

"We have been advised that on-board testing has found the norovirus to be the cause of the illness," she said.

Media reports suggest the cruise ship involved was the Sun Princess.

Symptoms of the norovirus include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach cramping.

Anyone suffering from these symptoms has been urged to consult with their GP and to not attend work or school for at least 48 hours.
