Doing it for the drought
PUBS across southwest Queensland are ramping up their support for farmers, thanks to promotions from such labels as Iron Jack.
One dollar from each carton of Iron Jack sold in pubs, including the White Bull Tavern, the Royal on 99 and Commonwealth Hotel, will be donated to Rural Aid, and 50 cents from each schooner of Iron Jack will also be donated to local relief efforts led by the charity.
Beers For The Bush will live large in pubs and clubs, as it aims to bring together drought-affected communities to share a beer at their local and raise funds while helping those venues that also support their communities who are doing it tough.
After launching the Parma for a Farmer campaign last week, Commonwealth Hotel owner Ben Cannon said it was good to see pubs and liquor companies getting behind drought-relief initiatives.
"It's fantastic that everyone want to be getting behind these initiatives and promotions to help the farmers out,” Mr Cannon said. "It's a great thing to try and help the community because a lot of people out this way really need our help at the moment.
"We've seen people coming into the pub or drive-through doing it tough out here and it's great that we can try and support these initiatives.”
Lion Beer and Iron Jack are kicking off the campaign by donating $100,000 to Rural Aid's Buy a Bale initiative with the Beers for the Bush campaign to raise at least $1 million.
