The dog that has spent almost 700 days in refuge
WOMBAT has been at the Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge for 698 days.
The four-and-a-half-year-old Bull Terrier X is in desperate need of a forever home which is why refuge manager Penny Brischke has launched Operation Find A Home For Wombat.
"Wombat came to us nearly two years ago now from another rescue that was closing down," she said.
"She'd been with them for 12 months as well so has been in a rescue or refuge environment for over half of her life the poor thing."
Ms Brischke said while Wombat would never be put down she did want her to find a loving home with an owner.
"She's a very smart girl and she's coping very well out here and she will have a home for life here but we'd like her not to live out the rest of it here," she said.
"She's a favourite with the volunteers and gets extra special cuddles and walks and loves to hang out in the volunteer kitchen.
"She lives in a outside yard with a little house and a yard and she's happy enough but we'd really love for her to get a home. It's not right for a dog to live their whole life in refuge."
Ms Brischke said Wombat would need to be in a home with someone who is patient and where she is the only pet.
"She'll be very unfamiliar with the outside world. She's very much in a refuge routine so will need someone who is patient and can get her in a forever home routine," she said.
"She probably needs to be the only pet and is better off not with young kids.
"She has good obedience though and loves going for walks."
There was also and added bonus for whoever wanted to give Wombat a forever home.
"A kind gentleman donated care packs for all the long-term dogs. So as part of her adoption she gets $100 worth of leads, collars, a coat and a bed.
"Whoever is nice enough to give Wombat a home won't have to outlay any extra money."
All of the workers at the Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge hoped Wombat would be adopted before her two year anniversary in their care on September 25.
