Dog and cats burnt alive in house fire

A DOG and two cats burnt alive and two people were lucky to escape with their lives in a horror house fire at Worongary early this morning.

A 50-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man were rushed to Royal Brisbane Hospital with serious burns to the face, chest and hands after the Mataranka Drive home went up in flames at about 3.40am.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokeswoman said the two-storey brick and tile house was "well involved" when fireys arrived on scene.

It wasn't until 4.54am that fireys reported they had managed to control the blaze.

The building is reportedly "completely unstable".

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said authorities believed the fire may have been caused by a fire pit on the verandah that was not properly extinguished after being used earlier in the night.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service team is still on scene this morning to investigate the cause.
