Deputy Mayor calls it quits

Deputy Mayor Tom Hartley will not be running in the Maranoa council election on April 28.

In a letter to the editor to the Western Star (to be published Tuesday), Cr Hartley said he would not be contesting again this year due to family and business commitments.

"I was considering running for mayor but at this time in my life I felt I could not commit fully to the job," Cr Hartley said.

"I have always done the job to the best of my ability and without fear of favor and would like to thank Council staff for their support throughout tough times and good."

Cr Hartley spent 14 years as a councillor with the former Booringa Shire Council and the last four with the Maranoa Regional Council.

"I have always done the job to the best of my ability and without fear of favor and would like to thank all of the staff of Maranoa Regional Council for their support throughout tough times and good," he said.
