'Triangular' flights from Gladstone as demand drops

IN a move that may be music to the ears of frequent flyers in Central Queensland, Virgin Australia has kicked off "triangular" flights between Brisbane, Gladstone and Rockhampton.

What this means is that some flights between Brisbane and Gladstone will now go via Rockhampton and vice versa for flights between Rockhampton and Brisbane.

But you may have to get in early because a Virgin Australia spokeswoman said the new services may not stick around for long.

It is understood that a reduced demand for flights between Brisbane, Gladstone and Rockhampton is the reason behind the change.

"We constantly review our flying, including passenger demand, and this week some Virgin Australia flights between Brisbane and Gladstone will be operated via Rockhampton," the spokeswoman said.

However, these changes are expected to only be "short-term" and "ad hoc" and will add an extra 45 minutes on to passenger flight times.

"Affected passengers are being advised of the changes to their travel itinerary," the spokeswoman said.
