Deadline looms for FIFO submissions

RESIDENTS and businesses will have until May 25 to have their say on fly-in-fly-out practices in Queensland.

A Queensland Parliamentary Committee will investigate the impacts FIFO has on workers, families, communities and industries.

The public is able to make submissions until 4pm on May 25.

Committee chair and Mackay MP Jim Pearce said the inquiry would focus on the health and mental health impacts, the costs and benefits of choosing a FIFO workforce, community wellbeing and quality of housing in accommodation villages.

"Together with community input, we will devise strategies to optimise the FIFO experience for employees and their families," he said.

The report will be tabled in parliament by September 30.

The terms of reference, inquiry timetable and guidelines for making a submission are available from http://www.parliament.qld.gov.au and follow the links to committee and current inquiries.
